United Church Women

In 1962 The Women's Missionary Society, WMS, and the Women's Auxiliary (Ladies Aid) joined to form the United Church Women, or the UCW. The UCW's purpose is to "unite women of the congregation for the total mission of the church and to provide a medium through which we may express our loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian Witness, study, fellowship, and service." They support Mission and Service as well as other United Church related groups. In Oxbow, there were as many as 87 women affiliated, meeting monthly in 4 groups. Today, the group is small and getting older so their role has changed. Before the pandemic, they often met at church for informal time of reflection and visiting over a cup of tea, held fundraisers, and attended the large UCW rallies. They are hoping to resume these activities soon, as there is always room for women to make a difference in the community.
